Some news out of Stuttgart today—Porsche is allegedly devloping hybrid versions of its Panamera, 911 and Cayman models, utilizing electric motors to bring a significant increase in available power. In a quickly changing world where almost every new supercar will have a hybrid system. It makes sense for Porsche to make this move as their long time competitor; the Nissan GT-R is set to have a hybrid system set to be implemented.
Hybrid models of the Panamera Turbo S and 911 Turbo S are expected to produce an eye-popping 900 horsepower, combining 550-560 ponies from the existing v8 and an aditiomnal 150 horsepower from the electric drivetrain.
Similar technology is also believed to be on the way for the Cayenne Turbo S and a new range-topping Cayman. The latter is said to be labeled the Cayman GT4, adopting a ‘PDK’ transmission similar to that of the 911 GT3 and potentially powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder block with hybrid assistance.
Recent reports also have suggested that the German automotive powerhouse is working on a Macan plug-in hybrid, though it is unclear if the technology will be used to improve efficiency or focus on supplementing horsepower for more mileage.
These leaks suggest engineers are attempting to apply advanced hybrid technology across Porsche’s entire range, taking inspiration from the flagship nearly-million-dollar 918 Spyder.
